Meet Hugh

Matt Pain

Matt is a Chartered Surveyor. He has a strong interest in wine (selling it being a former occupation), hence the trip through Portugal, Spain and France was planned carefully!

He completed the Marathon des Sables the same year as Hugh and has also climbed with him in Switzerland so knows what a determined guy he is. Having run a number of marathons in the UK and some ultra (cold) man-hauling and ski races he had a good idea of what the challenge involved for 50/50.

Matt looked after the route, logistics on the road (nutrition, accommodation) and made sure Hugh didn’t get lost too often! During 50/50, he completed over 20 half marathons despite being plagued by injuries throughout. He also wrote the extremely popular race blogs, generating support along the way.

Since returning from 50/50, Matt has been climbing in Snowdonia and the Alps and is about to return to London.

Jonny Hills

Jonny has worked as a marketing and business development professional for over 10 years, and during that time has developed an increasing interest in endurance and other seemingly silly adventures. He completed a 6 day winter ultra marathon in northern Canada with Matt and has not defrosted since – enjoying cross-country skiing marathons and ice swimming. Otherwise he has a lifelong passion for travel and the outdoors.

Jonny was instrumental in the success of 50/50, juggling his full time job and working through the night, supporting 50/50. He worked closely with MCCC and the Sponsors and was responsible for PR and logistics support, including organising our last day in Hyde Park and Trafalgar Square, negotiating tirelessly with the Council for permission and obtaining relevant permits. Great job Jonny!
